SHAPED BY NATURE

Copper is vital in motors, generators and transformers, which in turn are important components in a number of complex products. In fact, it has been said that the amount of copper a society consumes is a direct indicator of the advancement of that society.
But our modern lifestyle has also made us face environmental challenges. A reduction in carbon dioxide emissions is crucial and requires both technical changes in the automotive industry and that a larger portion of our energy supply comes from non-fossil energy sources. Once again, the answer is within the excellence of nature: renewable energy will not run out. Ever. The renewable energy available is actually much greater than current world energy consumption, which will make it the most important source of electrical power in the near future. Our commitment is to push it forward through high-quality winding wire solutions.

There are three basic types of applications of using winding wire, electric to electric tranformation (transformers), electric to mechanical transformation (motors) and mechanical to electrical transformation (generators).

SEGMENTS

Automotive
The copper content in a modern car is close to 30 kg. A large portion of this is winding wire, e.g. components in starter motors, auxiliary motors, ignition coils, ABS brakes, cruise controls and sensors. New functions like AICC, door openers, start/stop functions, active absorbers and intelligent head beams will further increase the need for winding wire, as well as improvements in fuel economy, environment and comfort. Hybrid cars (depending on the hybrid level) will consume another 10-20 kg of copper.

Renewable Energy
Wind power and solar power (including grids and transformers) are two areas that consume a large amount of winding wire material. Round and rectangular winding wire are key products in the manufacturing of windmills – a larger wind mill generator can contain more than 30 tons of winding wire, depending on technical solution.

Renewable energy is also generated by solar panels where the power can be converted by means of inverters changing the direct current into alternating current and finally tranforms this to the correct primary voltage.

Smaller panel systems can be found on houses, boats and other applications like "self sufficient" lighthouses and traffic systems.

Many larger solar sites have also been erected where the panels are set up in a cluster. The biggest solar panel farms are designed to generate up to100- 200 MW.

Solar hot water systems is used to collect the rays from the sun and convert this into electricity. This electricity is used to heat water which is pumped through the solar heater system.

Winding wire is used in the inverters/transformers as well as in the motor pumps.

Pumps and Household Appliances
Washing machines, dish washers, vacuum cleaners, heating and cooling systems and other white good products and household appliances are all dependent on copper.
The pump industry consumes a large amount of winding wire and the rigid demands and technical specifications have been met by us for many years.

Transport Industry
The railway industry has especially designed motors called traction motors. These motors are used in both light trams and very heavy locomotives. The motors and their components are designed to meet rigid demands when it comes to mechanical and thermal stress, stops and accelerations and should work under many different climate conditions. New types of winding wire and insulation material have been utilized to live up to these special demands. Exciting solutions for traction motors are now being developed for trolley (electrical) buses.

Power Tools and Welding Equipment
Power tools and welding equipment both depend heavily on copper for power. Round wire is required when manufacturing power tools, while both round and rectangular wires (and – to some extent – enameled aluminium wire) are required for welding equipment.

Power distribution
Transformers are used for energy transformation and converts the power voltage. Different types of winding wire are used in the maufacturing of power transformers. Copper is the primary material but also aluminium is being used.

Others
Winding wire is vital to a wide range of electrical products like computers, telephones, cell phones, televisions etc.
